A unique mix of performing artists gather to reinterpret and reimagine the music and words of Leonard Bernstein. Curated by his daughter, author-narrator Jamie Bernstein, this intimate evening features a wide range of performers: from Broadway to jazz, from classical to Latin American – and beyond.
A partial list of Bernstein Remix! artists includes:
- David Amram, composer and improvisationalist
- Edmar Castañeda, Colombian harp virtuoso
- Darius de Haas, Broadway/jazz artist
- Fred Hersch, jazz pianist
- Janis Ian, folk-rock legend
- Sharon Isbin, classical guitarist
- Eric Jacobsen, cellist, conductor of the Knights
- Pete Malinverni, jazz pianist
- Queer Urban Orchestra (QUO)
- Janis Siegel, jazz vocalist supreme
- The Ahn Trio with DJ Spooky
- Tony Yazbeck, Broadway triple-threat
And you should expect a few surprises!
Jamie Bernstein: “Bernstein Remix! is a wonderful way to remind today’s listeners of my dad’s musical multiplicities, reflected off the many facets of these brilliant musicians. Plus, we get a blazing new expression of Bernstein’s lifelong devotion to using music to make our world a better place.”
An evening to delight Bernstein aficionados, Lenny newbies – and everyone in between, of all ages!
With thanks to D J Spooky for the Bernstein Remix concept.
